midwest tango festival artists
Graciela Gonzalez & Leonardo Sardella
Graciela "La Leona" Gonzalez is no stranger in the U.S. However, it's been a long, LONG time since she's been back in the Midwest and we are so excited that she has agreed to include us in this year's U.S. tour with Leonardo Sardella. She is one of the most iconic women of tango in Buenos Aires and world reknowned for her experience in tango for her dancing and for her teaching. Being the partner of the famous Pupi Castello for nineteen years, Graciela has developed a keen understanding of what the Argentines refer to as the "Essence of Tango". And students, worldwide, have appreciated her generosity and her willingness to share her innovative approach to tango. We look forward to what she brings to this year's festival.
Leonardo Sardella is originally from Buenos Aires and resides in New York City where he currently teaches tango. Known worldwide for his ability to dance both roles interchangeably, as well as teach both roles, the value of his experience will give dancers the opportunity to progress quickly because he is able to provide immediate feedback for both roles. While not his first festival in the United States, we are very grateful that he will be joining us in Minneapolis for this year's festival.

Mariela Sametband & Guillermo "El Peque" Barrionuevo
This is Mariela Sametband's first trip to the United States for tango and we welcome her with open arms. Mariela's reputation precedes her as one of the most creative followers throughtout the world. Bringing a background of classical dance, Mariela's fresh approach to dancing tango raises the bar for most dancers. Her teaching inspires and challenges dancers to deeply explore the various connections in tango.
This is also the first tango trip to the U.S. for Guillermo "El Peque" Barrionuevo. He is one of the up and coming dancers of the new generation in Buenos Aires. However, with names like Gavito, Tete, Pocho & Neli, Nito & Elba and Graciela Gonzalez behind his journey in tango, what he is really known for is his personal style and charisma.
While both dancers jump head first into the evolution of tango, they both embrace the importance of the tradition and base their teaching on developing the unique dancer in each of us. We are so very lucky that they have joined us this year and can't wait to see how they will develop Midwest dancers!!
